Fireflies is set at an international airport, symbolising the ease of travel and freedom of movement, while being also an area under strict surveillance, governed by countless rules and prohibitions due to security reasons. As the weather conditions suddenly deteriorate, air traffic is brought to a halt due to a blizzard, so the everyday hustle and bustle calms down, prompting the airport staff and many stranded passengers to disclose their lives and establish contacts. The fact that they are obviously not staying at the airport only in short transit gives them a dramatic focus and highlights their individual characteristics. To some degree their original plans change due to a standstill, and their brief encounters will somehow affect their future lives.

Tena Štivičić is a Croatian playwright who is no stranger to Slovenian theatre goers, since three of her plays have been staged in Slovenian theatres. She is living and creating in London, and has achieved quite an enviable international success. In her plays, she often deals with the subject of migrations, also in Fireflies.

Director

She received several awards during her studies at the UL AGRFT: among them, for Three Sisters (2012), the student award for the best production. For the performance 1981 (S. C. Carri.re and P. Brook) for which she won two awards at the 56th International Theatre Festival MESS in Sarajevo. In 2016, she received the Prešeren Award for Students from the University of Ljubljana for her direction of the same play.
