Cult:ure with coffee

15. 10. 2019 / 10.00 & 19. 10. 2019 / 11.00
Did you know that we had the first coffee house in Maribor in 1748? There were seven coffee houses in the 1920s and eleven in the 1930s. Drinking coffee has always been an important part of the social life of the people of Maribor and coffee houses have also been a social gathering point, existing not only for enjoying this scented beverage, but also for reading the newspaper, playing cards or chess; coffee houses were the venues of dances, concerts and variety shows of many worldly masters.

On this "Sunday walk" Cult:ure with coffeeLeon Škerbinc Svengali, once a world famous illusionist, who impressed Rasputin himself will take you along the former city promenade and to some of the most famous Maribor coffee houses.

Cult:ure with wine

26 .10. 2019 / 10.00
If anything holds true for Maribor, it is certainly a wine city. A document from 1164 mentions the name Marchburch, the former castle on Pyramid Hill, after which the city was named, and already in the text vineyards are described, less than one hundred years later, vineyards on the hill were mentioned. The oldest vine plant in the world grows in our city, one of the biggest wine cellars in Central Europe hides in the underground of the city, the surrounded hills are covered with vineyards, and on the last day of October, we have the biggest St Martin’s Day celebration in the country.

The walk Cult:ure with winewill take you on a tour, which is in one way or another related to wine, not only in the noble form of vine, but also when "the wine kicks your sense in the ass", as Zoran Predin sings in his song. Your guide will be the brother of the former Emperor Archduke John of Austria, who will tell you who is the author of the folk song "One hill I am buying".
