The Space Within the Space: An exhibition about scenography in Slovenia before 1991
Slovenian Theatre Institute in collaboration with the National Gallery of Slovenia, the Maribor exhibition created in collaboration with the Maribor Art Gallery
Schedule
The first retrospective exhibition The Space Within the Spaceprovides a historical, stylistic, visual and theatrical overview of Slovenian scenography. Using original models, drafts in a variety of techniques, sketches, blueprints and performance photos, it presents scenography as a discipline, the works of contemporary and early scenographers, the development of acting spaces on Slovenian stages as well as brings new insight into the history of visual art and theatre in Slovenia.
Most of the older-generation scenographers were also important Slovenian visual artists, but the exhibition emphasises the theatrical segment of their work which, until now, was less well known, for example, the works by Ivan Vavpotič, Avgust Černigoj, Marij Pregl, Gabrijel Stupica, Valo Bratina, Maks Kavčič, Jože Polajnko, Tošo Primožič and others, all the way to the projects by Vadim Fiškin, Miran Mohar, Marko Japelj in the year 1991. The author of the exhibition is Ana Kocjančič, MA.
