In Dutch, the word mankind is a fabricated one: this English word for humanity sounds similar to the Dutch mensheid (humankind), but it can also be translated literally, to get a man-child – a human who has not yet come of age and is still developing. And people, reasonable men and women, are not fully developed, we’re constantly changing, in permanent development and uninterrupted growth. Evolution has put us in the place we occupy now and we like to think that we know exactly where we’ve come from and where we’re going. We build and destroy, we rise and we fall, we create space for ourselves, and sometimes for others. We learn from mistakes and progress through dialogues, from generation to generation we make our own way. We read, study, check and compare what’s written in the books. The entire development of the human race has been endlessly recorded in them, from time immemorial. They accompany us through time. But to where?
A dance performance with live music wittily, yet extremely seriously, presents the incessant development of the human race – entertainment for children, but for adults also (bitter) recognition.
