Jack London’s adventure novel White Fang (1907) talks about a half-dog, half-wolf in the time of the gold rush in Alaska. The places and times are wild, violent and inhospitable, particularly for a creature that belongs nowhere – wolves ostracise him, dogs don’t accept him and people despise and abuse him. His wild and raging nature secures his survival, but in the incessant confrontation with violence and hatred he remains distant, untrusting and alone. Meeting Scott is the key: will he, after years of hostility, be able to accept kindness and goodness? Will he yield to the human and let himself be domesticated?
The performance fully retains, even emphasises the first-person novel perspective with the original use of camera in the role of the protagonist. A sensitive, precise and thoughtful "acting" of the camera allows for simultaneous comprehensive and overview scenes and intimate and emotional "close-ups" that establish the protagonist as a feeling, thinking and yearning creature.
In 2018, Tomáš Jarkovský, Jakub Vašíček and Antonín Šilar won an award for the performing concept at the festival Skupova in Plzen; Vašíček also won the Czech theatre critics’ accolade for the best directing in the season 2017/18 for alternative and puppet theatre, and the performance won the important national award Erik as the best puppet production of the season.
